The Netherlands, also commonly referred to as Holland is a European country bordered but Germany, Belgium and the North Sea. Much of the Netherlands lies below sea level and has been reclaimed from the sea by a system of dykes.

The Netherlands is famous for its windmills, wooden clogs, cheese, pottery, brightly coloured bulb fields and its liberal attitude towards soft drugs and prostitution.

Dutch is the official language spoken in the Netherlands. Most Dutch people also speak English and many also speak German and French in addition.

Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands and Den Haag is the location of the parliament. Both cities are easily accessible from Schipol airport. Other popular cities in for visitors in the Netherlands include Haarlem and Rotterdam, Breda and Delft. For those visiting the Netherlands in the Summer months the towns of Noordwijk, Zandvoort and scheveningen are lively seaside resorts with sandy beaches and full of restaurants, bars, cafes and sandy beaches.

There are several options for travelling to the Netherlands. For those visitors coming from Europe it is possible to drive. For visitors coming to the Netherlands from further afield or who do not wish to take a car the international airports of Amsterdam ,Eindhoven,Groningen, Maastricht and Rotterdam provide good access to most of the country.
